Data & Methodology

Everything on TrendStatsHub is derived from public data collected on a fixed schedule and stored as timestamped snapshots. History is never overwritten, which is what makes rank changes, view deltas and trend lines possible.

YouTube trending

We call the official YouTube Data API v3 (videos.list with chart=mostPopular), once per country per category, on a recurring cycle — by default every 2 hours. Coverage is currently 20+ countries across seven categories (Music, Gaming, Entertainment, Comedy, Film & Animation, Sports, and Science & Tech). Each response row is stored with its rank, view count, like count and the exact capture time.

A video can appear in more than one category chart at once. The per-category tabs show each category's own chart ranked 1..N; the “All” view collapses those to one row per video, keeping the highest placement it achieved.

Velocity

Velocity is views gained per hour, calculated by comparing a video's view count between its two most recent snapshots and dividing the difference by the hours elapsed. Videos without at least two snapshots are excluded until enough history exists, so a brand-new upload never shows a misleading spike.

7-day and 30-day trend

Trend lines and percentages compare the earliest and latest snapshot within the window. “New entry” means we don't yet have a data point old enough to compute the change.

Hashtag Intelligence

After each YouTube poll cycle we take the current trending set, read the real tags attached to each video, and count how many distinct trending videos use each tag (case-insensitive). Tags are ranked by that video-count first, with combined views as a tiebreaker, so a tag shared by many trending videos ranks above one big video's long tag list. The keyword generator runs a full-text search across every video we have ever seen, not just what's trending now.

Channels

The channel list is built live from channels whose videos have trended in the last 30 days. Subscriber counts come from the YouTube channels.list endpoint and are global (not region-specific); the country filter only decides which channels qualify for the list.

Hype Meter

Trending movies come from the TMDB API. Each movie's official trailer is matched using TMDB's own video data (not fuzzy title matching), and that trailer's live YouTube view and like counts are fetched on the same cycle. The Hype Score min–max normalises TMDB popularity and trailer views across the current list and blends them 50/50.

TikTok

The TikTok Top 50 is a fixed watchlist refreshed roughly once a day from public TikTok data. The profile lookup fetches public data on demand and caches it briefly. Private accounts cannot be read.

Limitations

YouTube's API reports a single global view count per video, so per-country view totals are not available — where we show a country breakdown it is based on chart rank, which is region-specific. Upstream sources can revise their own numbers, and a poll cycle can be skipped if an API is temporarily unavailable.
